           Badrachalam is located in Kammam District, Andhra Pradesh. It is 312 kms from Hyderabad, and 201 kms from Vijayawada. Nearest railway station is in Kothagudem, 40kms. from Badrachalam

GOOPURAM OF BHADRACHALAM

            Badrachalam is one of the famous temples dedicated to SriRama, one of the incarnations of Dasavataram. Badrachalam is called as Ayodhya of the South India. This temple was constructed by Bhaktha Ramadas in 17^th century. He is a devotee of Lord Rama. It is situated on the banks of River Godavari. The main deity of the temple faces west side towards Godavari. This year (2012) Athiratram Yagam is conducting in Atipaka, 13kms from Badrachalam from 21^st April 2012 to 2^nd May 2012. This is one of the greatest Yagas. 

HISTORY OF THE TEMPLE

            Badrachalam is situated in an area, which was once apart of Dandakaranya forest, visited by Lord Rama along with SitaDevi and Lakshmana during their Vanavasam. They built a Parnasala in this Dandakaranya and stayed there. It is believed as the place from where Sita Devi was abducted by Ravana.       

             Once they went around the forest and got tiered and rested on a rock. Lord Rama and Sita Devi were pleased by the happiness given by the rock. By the blessings of Lord Rama, he was born as a son of MERU DEVI and MERU PARVATHA RAJU as Varaprasada of Lord Brahma. Badhra was devotee of Lord Rama from childhood, got upadasam of   RAMATARAKA MANTRAM from Narada Maharshi and did Penance in this forest for darshan of Lord Sri Rama. By that time Rama avatar was completed. Pleased by the prayer of Bhadra Lord Vishnu  appeared before Bhadra in Rama avataram with 4 hands and with Sanku,Chankra,Dhanurbhanam and Sita Devi on his left lap and Lakshmana on his left side sitting on a Padmasana. He prayed Lord Rama to stay on his head forever along with Sita Devi and Lakshmana. Later according to the wish of Badra Lord Rama placed his foot prints on the Badra’s head, who changed into hill and lord Rama stayed in Bhadra’s hrudayastana. We can see the foot prints even today. As Bhadra is a Achalam(hill) it is called as Badrachalam. Lord SriRama here is called as Badradri Rama. He is also called as Bhadradri Ramudu, Vykunta Ramudu, Ohmkara Rama, Rama Narayana as he caught Sanku, Chakra, Dhanurbhana in his hands.

ANJAYENA Temple At BHADRACHALAM

           The idols of Rama, Sita Devi, and Lakshmana were found by Pokala Dammakka. Lord Rama appeared in her dream and informed her of the existence of the idols on Badragiri. On next day morning she started searching for the idols. She found the idols in an ant hill. She brought hundreds of pots of waters from River Godavari.   Mud on it started dissolving and finally idols appeared. She did poojas daily and offered Neivedyam. With the help of the villagers she built a small hut. One day when she was bothering that there is no shelter for Lord SriRama, SriRama told her that after some days a temple will be constructed here by one of his devotees. Later BHAKTHA RAMADAS built a temple here.

Entrance In To The Temple Through Goopuram

             Badrachalam temple was constructed by Kancharla Gopanna in the year 1674A.D. He is popularly known as Bhaktha Ramadas. He is a devotee of Lord Rama. He was appointed as the THALISLDAR of Palvancha paragon by TANESHA. He used to collect tax from people and send it to Tanesha. Once along with the villagers he went to Jathara at Bhadrachalam and the deities of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana  attracted   

him so much and became a devotee of Lord Rama. He started collecting funds from the people and he diverted all the revenue collected as tax from the people to built the temple thinking that he would repay the amount after harvesting the crop.

Stair Case To The Temple

             Tanesha came to now about this and dismissed him. He kept him in jail for 12 long years. In prison he started asking Lord Rama to let him out of the prison by singing songs which became popular as Keertanas of Bhakta Ramadas. Pleased by the prayers of Ramadas Lord Rama and Lakshmana came and paid 6 lakhs Mohurs to Tanesha introducing themselves as Ramoji and Lakshmoji, servants of Bhaktha Ramadas and asked him to release Ramadas. Tanesha realized that Ramaoji and Lashmoji were none other than Lord Rama and Lakshmana and he became devotee of Lord Rama and gave back all the 6 lakh Mohars to Ramadas, but he refused to do so and took only two Mohurs as a mark of divine significance. These coins are still present in Bhadrachalam.

            Gopanna (Ramadas) also gave many ornaments to Lord Rama, Sita Devi and Lakshmana and introduced a ritual of doing Kalyanam on the SriRamanavami. This soon became popular and was followed all over India. Taneesha made a custom of sending Mutyala Talambralu(pearls),and Pattu clothes on behalf of government. It is being followed even now. Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam(TTD) also sends Pattu clothes for marriage. Mixing Kalyana Talambralu of the Lord Rama and Sita Devi in our marriage Talambralu is believed auspicious. Devastham sends Talambralu if we book in post office or you can contact devastham. Those who get these Thalambralu will soon get married to a good partner. Seeing this Kalyanam gives you Asvamedha Yaga Phalam. Marriage will be telecasted in TV channels.

PLACES TO VISIT AROUND BRADRACHALAM

1. PARNASALA

This is 35kms from Badrachalam. This is the place where Lord Rama, Sita Devi and Lakshmana built a Parnasala during Vanavasam. It is called as PANCHAVATI in Ramayaanam. Lord Rama, Sita Devi and Lakshmana stayed here for 11months and 10days during Vanavasam. Sita Devi was abducted by Ravana from this place .We can see SITA VAGU, where Sita Devi used to take bath. Auto and buses are available to go there but there is no accommodation facility, cottages are under construction.

2. SRI RAMA GIRI

In this place we can see the foot prints of Lord Rama and blood marks of the golden deer. It is 60 kms from Badrachalam. Yoga rama temple is present on  the hill .

3. YETAPAKA

It is 4kms from Badrachalam. This is the place where wing of Jatayuvu fell during the fight with Ravana. Earlier it is called as Jatapaka.

4. GUNDALA

It is 6kms fro Badrachalam. When you dig a pit at any place in this area you will find hot water springs.
